The Truckload Carriers Association has opened enrollment for its 2027 Elite Fleet Program, which recognizes for-hire truckload carriers based on workplace practices and feedback from the drivers and independent contractors who work with them.

Created in partnership with the University of Denver’s Transportation & Supply Chain Institute, the certification evaluates participating carriers across areas including safety, compensation, benefits, quality of life, equipment, operations and technology.

Driver Feedback Is Part of the Certification

Participating carriers submit company information that is evaluated alongside confidential surveys completed by drivers and independent contractors.

Those surveys examine satisfaction, working conditions, and overall experience with the carrier. The program also considers company policies and metrics covering pay and bonus programs, health and retirement benefits, home time, career opportunities, driver engagement, facilities and equipment.

Carriers that complete the process receive feedback on their application and survey results along with comparisons to industry benchmarks.

TCA For-Hire Carrier Members Can Apply

The program is open to TCA for-hire carrier members, and enrollment must be completed by an employee of the participating carrier.

Enrollment for the 2027 program is open through November 13, 2026. TCA’s current program timeline lists December 4 as the deadline for completed company applications and driver surveys, both of which must be submitted in full for a carrier to be considered for certification.

Carriers interested in participating can learn more and complete enrollment through the TCA Elite Fleet Program website.

Certified Fleets Will Be Announced in January

TCA plans to announce the 2027 certified fleets on January 13, 2027.

The program was introduced in 2025, when 48 carriers earned the inaugural Elite Fleet certification. The designation is intended to recognize North American for-hire carriers that meet the program’s benchmarks for the driver workplace and overall experience.

Recognition Set for TCA’s 2027 Annual Convention

Carriers earning 2027 Elite Fleet certification will be recognized during the TCA Annual Convention, February 28 through March 3, 2027, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The program is sponsored by TruckRight and Acrisure.

Eligible carriers can find the full program requirements, timeline, and enrollment information at TCAEliteFleet.com.

Averitt has added another athletics program to its growing event and production logistics portfolio. The Cookeville, Tennessee based carrier recently began a partnership with Kennesaw State University to support the school’s football operations through dedicated equipment transportation.

The partnership is being handled by Averitt’s On Tour Logistics division, which specializes in moving equipment for sports, entertainment, and live events. Service for Kennesaw State’s football program began earlier this season and is focused on ensuring team equipment is delivered safely and on time throughout the schedule.

“With this partnership, Averitt is proud to provide dependable transportation for Kennesaw State University athletics,” said Danny Crooks, Averitt’s vice president of corporate transportation. “Our team is committed to delivering reliable service that helps support the program’s success both on and off the field.”

Supporting College Athletics Through Specialized Logistics

Under the agreement, Averitt’s On Tour Logistics team is responsible for transporting football equipment as the program continues to expand. The service reflects the increasing role specialized trucking plays in collegiate athletics, where timing, handling, and reliability are critical.

Averitt pointed to its geographic footprint as a key advantage in supporting the partnership.

“With a strong presence across Georgia and throughout the Southeast, Averitt is well-positioned to support Kennesaw State’s team and help ensure their equipment arrives safely and on schedule,” Averitt said. “The company has extensive experience serving athletics programs and other customers across the region.”

Broader Transportation Capabilities Across the Southeast

Beyond event and athletics logistics, Averitt continues to operate a broad transportation network across the Southeast. The company provides over the road and regional less than truckload services for a wide range of customers, including other university programs.

Similar transportation support is already in place for Tennessee Tech University, demonstrating how carriers are increasingly applying traditional freight expertise to specialized and time sensitive moves.

For drivers and carriers, partnerships like this highlight how event logistics and athletics transportation have become a steady segment of specialized freight, requiring coordination, regional knowledge, and dependable execution rather than long haul volume alone.

In an industry built on miles, schedules, and deadlines, there are moments that remind trucking of its deeper purpose. National Wreaths Across America Day, observed this year on December 13, was one of those moments.

Across the country, volunteers gathered at more than 5,500 national cemeteries to place wreaths on the graves of fallen service members. More than three million wreaths were laid by more than three million volunteers, turning a nationwide logistics effort into a shared act of remembrance.

Behind that effort stood the trucking industry.

Moving the Mission Forward One Load at a Time

At Arlington National Cemetery alone, 69 trucks delivered wreaths ahead of the event. Nationwide, more than 325 carriers helped transport nearly 700 loads, ensuring wreaths reached cemeteries in every region.

Those trucks arrived quietly the day before the ceremony, staging across Arlington’s rolling grounds and waiting for volunteers who would later carry each wreath to a headstone. Drivers did not arrive to fanfare or media attention. They arrived to fulfill a responsibility.

Jason Westcoff of NFI made his sixth delivery to Arlington this year. His wife accompanied him, and his jacket and truck bear patches marking each year he has hauled wreaths for the organization.

A Day Marked by Respect and Stillness

Despite the size of the crowd at Arlington, the atmosphere remained subdued. Visitors moved carefully across the grounds, speaking names aloud as they placed wreaths, acknowledging each service member individually.

There were no interviews, no cameras sweeping the crowd, and no distractions overhead. The focus stayed where it belonged, on remembrance.

This quiet respect is intentional and reflects the values of Wreaths Across America, whose mission centers on remembering the fallen, honoring those who serve, and teaching future generations the value of freedom.

Where the Mission Began

That mission traces back to a childhood visit to Arlington National Cemetery.

As a 12-year-old, Morrill Worcester was struck by the scale and meaning of the site. Years later, after building a successful business, Worcester found himself with a surplus of wreaths at the end of the holiday season in 1992. Rather than discard them, he arranged for those wreaths to be placed at Arlington.

The gesture continued quietly for years until 2005, when an image of snow-covered headstones adorned with wreaths circulated online. What had once been a small tribute grew into a national movement.

Why Trucking Matters to Wreaths Across America

As the program expanded, trucking became essential.

Wreaths Across America depends on carriers and drivers to move wreaths from Maine to cemeteries across the country. Without that network, the mission would not scale.

Executive Director Karen Worcester emphasized this reality during this year’s escort, stating twice, “Wreaths Across America would not exist without the support from the nation’s trucking industry.”

Drivers Share Why They Participate

For many drivers, participating is personal.

Brown Dog Carriers driver Steven Bouthillette delivered his first load this year after planning to take part for some time.

“I’ve wanted to be a part of this event for a long time and was scheduled to deliver last year,” explains Bouthillette. “But circumstances came up that changed plans.

“Missing it wasn’t going to happen again though,” he jokes. “I reminded my dispatcher regularly all this year that I would make it to Arlington. And it truly is a privilege to be here this year.”

Schneider driver Patrice Cook has delivered wreaths to Arlington for four consecutive years while driving a Ride of Pride truck that honors military service. Cook herself served nearly 24 years in the Army.

“I’ve been so lucky to attend this event for a few years now, to meet so many great people in the organization and at the Cemetery,” explained Cook. “This is the best load I haul all year. When I tell drivers that and they doubt me, I just say, ‘Do it once, and you’ll see.’”

She added, “But what’s particularly special is that I get to drive this truck all year long.”

Planning Is Already Underway for Next Year

As soon as the 2025 event concluded, planning began for the next one. Organizing National Wreaths Across America Day requires a full year of coordination among volunteers, carriers, and sponsors.

Through December 31, 2025, wreath sponsorships made through registered groups are matched by the organization. Local groups can be found through Wreaths Across America’s group search.

The organization encourages drivers and carriers interested in participating to consider joining the Wreaths Across America Honor Fleet.

“Our volunteers are the beating heart of the program and work year-round to share this important mission and inspire others to join.”

The mission remains unchanged. Remember the fallen. Honor those who serve. Teach the next generation the value of freedom.

Mission accomplished.

Volunteers can plan ahead for December 19, 2026 at participating cemeteries nationwide. Carriers and drivers interested in supporting future events can learn more at wreathsacrossamerica.org.

As year-end shipping surges collide with holiday shutdowns, trucking carriers are facing a familiar but intensifying risk. Cargo theft activity consistently spikes in the days surrounding Christmas and New Year’s, prompting renewed warnings for fleets moving high value freight.

Verisk CargoNet recently issued an advisory urging carriers and logistics providers to tighten security and verification procedures during the final stretch of the year, when reduced staffing and longer dwell times can create openings for organized theft.

Based on a five-year review of confirmed cargo theft incidents and attempted fraud, the firm identified December 23 through January 2 as a recurring high-risk window across the supply chain.

Five Years of Data Show a Clear Pattern

Verisk CargoNet’s analysis found that holiday period cargo crime has risen sharply over the last five years.

Reported events climbed from 49 in 2020 to 89 in 2024, representing an increase of roughly 82 percent. Across the five holiday windows reviewed, the firm documented 353 total events. For this analysis, events included cargo theft, tractor and trailer theft, and supply chain fraud.

The data shows that criminal activity is not evenly distributed across the holiday break. Instead, it clusters tightly around specific dates.

When Risk Is Highest

Verisk CargoNet’s timing analysis highlights several key trends carriers should be aware of when planning holiday operations:

353 total events occurred across five holiday windows from December 23 through January 2

About 82 percent growth in reported events from 2020 to 2024

Roughly 69 percent of incidents occurred between December 23 and December 29

About 53 percent occurred between December 26 and December 30

December 23 was the single highest risk day, accounting for 56 events, or about 16 percent of the total

Activity consistently spikes immediately before and after Christmas

For carriers, these findings reinforce the need for heightened vigilance not just on Christmas Day itself, but throughout the surrounding week when facilities may be closed and freight sits longer than usual.

Geographic Hotspots Remain Consistent

The five-year review also shows that cargo theft during the holiday period remains concentrated in major freight markets.

California recorded the highest number of holiday window events with 84 incidents, followed by Texas with 41, Illinois with 32, and Florida with 32.

At the county level, the highest concentrations were reported in San Bernardino County and Los Angeles County in California, along with Shelby County, Tennessee. These areas continue to align with dense freight corridors, high warehouse activity, and strong secondary resale markets.

What Thieves Target During the Holidays

Cargo theft during the holiday window continues to focus on commodities with strong resale demand and price volatility.

Verisk CargoNet reports that vehicle related freight such as tires, auto parts, and motor oils remains a frequent target. Other commonly stolen commodities include alcoholic beverages, televisions and display equipment, and computers and accessories.

Additional categories seeing repeated targeting include power tools, footwear, and major appliances, particularly when shipments are staged or delayed during facility closures.

Verification Failures Create Opportunity

According to Verisk CargoNet, many holiday period thefts exploit breakdowns in verification and communication rather than physical security alone.

“The holiday period creates conditions criminals exploit – reduced oversight, facility closures, and high-value freight moving on compressed schedules,” said Keith Lewis, vice president of operations at Verisk CargoNet. “Carriers and shippers should verify every pickup through direct communication with known contacts, never relying solely on email, text, or caller ID. A quick call to a verified number can prevent a six- or seven-figure loss.”

For carriers, this reinforces the importance of strict pickup verification protocols, especially when last minute changes occur or unfamiliar contacts are involved.

Risk Reduction Steps for Carriers

Verisk CargoNet recommends that carriers and shippers reinforce layered security measures throughout the holiday period, particularly during peak risk days. Suggested actions include:

Verifying pickups and appointment changes through known, trusted contacts using call back procedures

Increasing facility access controls and security coverage during off hours and holiday closures

Reducing dwell time for loaded trailers and avoiding unsecured parking locations

Using secure, monitored parking for extended stops and staged equipment

Deploying shipment monitoring and tracking tools for high value loads where available

Establishing clear driver check in expectations during closures and extended dwell periods

Reporting suspicious activity and confirmed incidents promptly to law enforcement and Verisk CargoNet

A Familiar Risk That Requires Extra Attention

While cargo theft is a year-round concern, the data shows that the holiday window presents a predictable spike in activity. For carriers operating through year end, planning ahead for staffing gaps, facility closures, and verification controls can make the difference between a routine delivery and a costly loss.

As freight continues to move through the final days of the year, carriers are being reminded that small process failures during the holidays can carry outsized consequences.

For the first time, trucking now has a dedicated caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives. A bipartisan group of lawmakers has formally launched the Congressional Trucking Caucus, creating a space on Capitol Hill focused entirely on trucking-related policy, safety concerns, and the long-term health of the industry.

A congressional caucus is a group of legislators who come together around shared priorities and objectives. In this case, the focus is on trucking.

According to a letter filed on Dec. 12 to register the caucus, the group will be “dedicated to issues related to the trucking industry and the policies that promote integrity, safety, and the growth of our nation’s trucking economy.”

Who is leading the Congressional Trucking Caucus?

The caucus is being co-chaired by a mix of Republican and Democratic representatives from across the country. Those lawmakers include Reps. Dave Taylor of Ohio, Shomari Figures of Alabama, Harriet Hageman of Wyoming, Pat Harrigan of North Carolina, Doug LaMalfa of California, and Mary Miller of Illinois.

Organizers say the caucus is intended not only to address legislation that affects trucking but also to serve as an educational resource for members of Congress who may not have direct experience with the industry.

Why lawmakers say the caucus is needed

Rep. Dave Taylor pointed to both the size of the trucking industry and recent safety concerns as reasons for launching the caucus.

“Generating nearly $906 billion in revenue in 2024, America’s trucking industry powers our economy by creating 8.4 million jobs and securing American supply chains,” Taylor said. “After several tragic accidents occurred recently because of CDL drivers who could not read the road signs, it’s evident that change is needed to protect American lives on the road. I’m proud to launch the Congressional Trucking Caucus alongside my colleagues to create a forum for discussing policy solutions to keep all drivers safe on American roads, support hardworking truck drivers, and ensure the accessibility of reliable transportation across our Nation.”

Supporters say the caucus gives lawmakers a formal venue to discuss safety standards, workforce issues, and policies that impact carriers and drivers nationwide.

Industry groups back the new caucus.

The launch of the Congressional Trucking Caucus has already drawn support from major trucking organizations, including the American Trucking Associations, the Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association, and the Truckload Carriers Association.

Henry Hanscom, Senior Vice President of Legislative Affairs at the American Trucking Associations, emphasized the role trucking plays in everyday life and the importance of having informed lawmakers involved.

“America’s trucking industry is essential to our economy, our national security, and our way of life. Over 8.4 million hardworking Americans deliver more than three-quarters of the nation’s freight, and 80 percent of communities rely solely on trucks to receive their goods,” Hanscom said. “The American Trucking Associations commends Reps. Taylor and Figures for forming this bipartisan caucus that will prioritize issues important to truckers. We look forward to working with them to expand the Congressional Trucking Caucus’ size and influence on Capitol Hill and to advance legislation that will help keep our industry strong for the long haul.”

What this could mean for drivers and carriers

While the caucus does not create new laws on its own, it establishes trucking as a dedicated policy focus within Congress. For drivers and carriers, that could mean more informed discussions around safety, workforce standards, and regulatory decisions that affect day-to-day operations.

By bringing trucking issues into a formal bipartisan forum, supporters believe the caucus can help ensure the industry’s voice is heard as transportation policy continues to evolve.

As the caucus grows and attracts more members, industry groups say they plan to stay engaged and provide input on issues that matter most to the people moving freight every day.

With market pressure continuing across the truckload sector, the Truckload Carriers Association is adjusting its approach to encourage broader carrier participation at its annual convention. TCA announced it is offering discounted registration pricing for Truckload 2026, making the event more accessible to carriers of all sizes and experience levels.

Truckload 2026 will take place from February 28 through March 3 at the Gaylord Palms in Orlando. The new pricing applies to all carriers, regardless of TCA membership status.

Why TCA is changing the pricing model

TCA said the decision reflects the current operating environment and the need for carriers to have stronger access to education, peer discussion, and industry collaboration.

“Our industry continues to be plagued by uncertainty,” TCA said. “At moments like this, access to education, peer insight, and meaningful connections is more essential than ever. The philosophy is simple. The more carriers in the room, the stronger the conversations, the better the solutions, and the greater the value for everyone. That’s why TCA’s Officers have unanimously approved a reduced registration rate for all carriers, regardless of TCA member status, to attend TCA’s 2026 Annual Convention, taking place from Feb. 28 – March 3 at the Gaylord Palms in Orlando.”

The association emphasized that expanding participation strengthens discussions and leads to more practical outcomes for the truckload sector as a whole.

Flat rate registration for carriers

Under the updated structure, carriers can register for Truckload 2026 at a flat rate of $500. According to TCA, the reduced rate is designed to remove financial barriers that may have kept some fleets from attending in the past.

“We hope this $399 discount encourages new carriers to check out the meeting and that it allows our longtime attendees to bring new team members and strengthen their involvement in TCA,” TCA said.

For carriers considering professional development opportunities for operations leaders, safety managers, or executives, the reduced cost may allow broader internal participation.

Focus on collaboration across the truckload sector

TCA leadership framed the pricing change as part of a broader effort to strengthen industry collaboration during a challenging period.

“TCA has always believed that a stronger industry is built through collaboration,” said Jim Ward, TCA president. “By offering a $500 carrier rate for Truckload 2026, we’re removing barriers and reinforcing a simple truth: when carriers come together to learn, compare notes, and support one another, it lifts the entire truckload community.”

The association noted that creating space for carriers to share experiences and strategies is especially important as fleets navigate cost pressures, regulatory requirements, and shifting freight demand.

What carriers can expect at Truckload 2026?

Truckload 2026 will feature roundtable discussions focused on current industry challenges, educational sessions, and opportunities to connect with peers. The event also includes a keynote appearance by Jimmy Johnson and a live performance by Sugar Ray.

Carriers that have already registered will receive communication from TCA’s events team regarding the updated pricing.

For fleets evaluating where to invest time and resources in 2026, the discounted registration offers an opportunity to engage with industry peers and gain insight without the usual cost barrier.

Creating a powerful brand is a must for trucking carriers looking to stand out, build credibility, and nurture meaningful connections with both clients and drivers. At Truck Drivers USA (TDUSA), we understand the critical role branding plays in driving success for businesses. This guide outlines effective branding strategies for trucking carriers to establish a compelling and lasting identity.

Why Branding Matters in the Trucking Business

Branding goes far beyond logos or selecting a color scheme for your company. It represents your values, the reputation you cultivate, and the overall experience you offer. A strong, thoughtfully developed brand can:

Stand Out in a Crowded Market

A unique brand identity ensures your company is easily recognizable and memorable, even in a highly competitive industry.

Build Trust with Clients

Consistent, professional branding showcases your dependability and encourages potential clients to choose your services over others.

Attract Exceptional Drivers

Reputable branding is a magnet for qualified and skilled drivers seeking a reliable employer, helping you build a stronger and more cohesive team.

How to Create a Distinctive Brand for Your Trucking Business

1. Define Your Unique Value Proposition (UVP)

Your UVP is what sets you apart. Whether it’s specialized freight services, innovative technology, superior customer care, or eco-friendly initiatives, clearly articulate what makes your company stand out. A well-defined UVP helps craft a focused and impactful message for your target audience.

2. Develop a Clear Brand Strategy

Your strategy should be built on your mission, vision, and core values. These serve as a foundation for every branding effort, ensuring consistency across all touchpoints. When creating your strategy, consider factors like:

Who Is Your Target Audience?

What Brand Voice Should You Use?

How Does Your Competition Position Themselves?

Answering these questions will guide everything from messaging to presentation.

3. Create a Professional Visual Identity

Your visual assets say a lot about your business. Design a memorable logo and select a cohesive color palette that embodies your brand’s personality. Apply these visual elements consistently across:

Your fleet

Website and digital platforms

Marketing materials (flyers, brochures, business cards)

4. Build an Engaging Website

Think of your website as your company’s digital storefront. It needs to be:

Cleanly designed and mobile-friendly

Easy to navigate

Packed with key details like service offerings, contact information, and client testimonials

To establish credibility, provide value-rich content and ensure seamless user experience.

5. Utilize Social Media Effectively

Social media platforms are crucial for increasing brand awareness. Platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram allow you to:

Share industry trends and insights

Post updates about your company

Give behind-the-scenes peeks into operations

By engaging authentically and consistently, you can build stronger customer relationships and a wider audience.

6. Prioritize Exceptional Customer Service

How you treat your customers directly impacts your brand’s reputation. Deliver standout service by:

Offering personalized support

Providing status updates promptly

Being responsive to questions and issues

This kind of care boosts satisfaction and strengthens your brand identity as reliable and trustworthy.

7. Use Vehicle Branding

Your trucks are more than tools for transportation; they’re mobile advertisements. Adding your logo, slogan, and contact info on your fleet instantly amplifies visibility and reinforces brand recognition as your vehicles travel far and wide.

8. Engage Locally

Being active in your community is an excellent branding opportunity. Ways to connect include:

Sponsoring local events

Partnering with charitable organizations

Supporting causes that align with your values

Community participation shines a positive light on your business and showcases your commitment to making a difference.

Keeping Your Brand Relevant and Resilient

Branding isn’t a one-time effort; it’s an ongoing process that demands regular reevaluation. Take these steps to keep your branding strong:

Seek Feedback: Have regular check-ins with both clients and employees to identify what’s working and where improvements are needed.

Follow Industry Trends: Staying aware of the latest in the trucking industry ensures your branding remains relevant and resonates with your target audience.

Reveal Your Brand’s Potential

A strong brand can help your company pave the road to success. At Truck Drivers USA, we’re here to assist trucking professionals in navigating the complexities of branding, ensuring continued growth and success in this dynamic industry.
